michael colwell
Mr. Colwell is a graduate of McGill University (B.A. Hons., M.A.) in Montreal and Osgoode Hall (J.D.) in Toronto, where he articled.
From his years at a major western Canadian law firm, Mr. Colwell has particular experience in the handling of complex multi-party liability claims (personal injury and product liability); he has advised insurers on the drafting of policy wording, provided coverage opinions on property and liability policies, prosecuted and defended subrogated claims, defended uninsured actions and actions that fall exclusively within the self-insured retentions of insureds.
Apart from insurance law, Mr. Colwell has diverse experience in proceedings pursuant to the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, shareholder and oppression remedy litigation, class action defence and aboriginal electoral disputes.
Mr. Colwell has taught a business law course at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.
Mr. Colwell has advocated before trial and appellate levels of court in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, and at both levels of the Canadian federal court.
