mark v.c. virgin
Mark V.C. Virgin has practiced in the field of civil litigation and administrative law since being admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1992. His practice has included appearances in all of the Superior Courts of British Columbia and he has extensive trial experience, particularly before juries. He is trained as a commercial arbitrator and has appeared at arbitrations and at hundreds of mediations on behalf of clients.
Prior to his return to private practice in 1998, Mr. Virgin served as in-house counsel with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia where he played a key role in the drafting and rollout of the Notice to Mediate Regulation. In 2006, Mr. Virgin formed the firm of Stevens Virgin, a firm specializing in civil litigation.
Mr. Virgin practices in commercial litigation, professional negligence matters, product liability, construction disputes and focuses primarily on complex personal injury and insurance matters. He has considerable experience handling defences involving difficult medical issues, complicated economic loss claims and contentious liability.
In addition to his practice, he has been a regular lecturer at industry seminars. Mr. Virgin has lent his expertise to CLE, most recently as a speaker on Discovery Practice in B.C. In January, 2008 he has given presentations to representatives of major insurers on Defending Chronic Pain Cases and on Defending Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Claims.
Mr. Virgin dedicates hundreds of hours annually to community service, most notably on the Boards of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and previously as Director on the Board of the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia. In 2005, the Canadian Bar Association awarded him distinction for his community service.
