Margaret Stanier

Margaret Stanier obtained her BA (Honours History) from the University of British Columbia in 1977 and her LLB from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 1981. She was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1982. In the ensuing years, she has taught legal research and writing and practiced as a civil litigator, litigation solicitor and research lawyer in the areas of motor vehicle, personal injury, insurance, corporate/commercial and administrative law. For eight years Ms. Stanier practiced at well known Vancouver law firm where her practice focused on the research and analysis of complex legal issues and on writing appellate factums, trial submissions and chambers applications, and opinion letters. She has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of British Columbia and the Federal Court, Trial Division and Court of Appeal.
 
Ms. Stanier is an active member of the Legal Research Section and Women Lawyers Forum of the Canadian Bar Association and in December 2008, was a speaker at Legal Research 2008 for CLE BC. She is also a volunteer for Lawyer’s Rights Watch Canada for whom she writes and edits research papers for publication and submission to the United Nations and other Human Rights bodies.
