Linda P. Stevens obtained her undergraduate degree in history and theatre arts at the University of British Columbia in 1978 before continuing on to complete her law degree, also at the University of British Columbia. She arrived at law school with an interest in becoming trial counsel and confirmed this through participation in moot court activities and clinical courses that permitted budding litigators to appear in court.
Ms. Stevens was called to the Bar in British Columbia in June 1987 and obtained articles at a highly respected insurance defence firm where she remained for the next four years, developing her courtroom skills. She has appeared in all levels of court in British Columbia.
Ms. Stevens opened her own private practice in 1992, working primarily for insurance clients. Since then her practice focus has been on defence of complex personal injury claims such as mild traumatic brain injury, thoracic outlet syndrome, fibromyalgia, and severe orthopaedic injuries as well as claims involving psychiatric disorders such as depression, chronic pain syndrome, PTSD and conversion disorders. She is also regularly called upon to resist contentious liability cases (motor vehicle and occupier's liability) and is well acquainted with accident reconstruction and biomechanical evidence.
Ms. Stevens has a special interest in cases where fraud or exaggeration is suspected and this resulted in her being among the first counsel in the province to press for electronic discovery and production of personal computer hard drives in mild traumatic brain injury cases where malingering was suspected.
Ms. Stevens was the co-chair of the 2003 CLE on Part 7 Benefits. She and our firm have regularly participated in updating the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Practice Manual. She has provided training seminars to ICBC's Head Office and Head Injury Departments on topics including chronic pain and mild traumatic brain injury.
